Consistent Taxation
The automobile industry recognises the role vehicle taxes play in driving down CO2 emissions from road transport. As part of an integrated approach, clear and consistent tax signals send a strong message to consumers, industry and other stakeholders. However, the current framework across member states is not supportive with a disparate and fragmented approach. Registration taxes are a particular issue, varying widely across borders, distorting the internal market and penalising fleet renewal.
CO2-related Taxation is a Must
CO2-based taxation of cars and of alternative fuels has a significant CO2 reduction potential by shaping consumer demand and setting economic incentives.
ACEA Tax Guide 2008
ACEA's annual Tax Guide gives an overview of motor vehicle taxation in the twenty-seven Member States of the European Union, the countries of the European Free Trade Association as well as Turkey. It is compiled with the help of the national associations of motor vehicle manufacturers or importers in these countries and describes in detail the taxes that are levied on the sale, registration, ownership and the use of motor vehicles in each country.
