ACEA endorses RESPONSE Code of Practice for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The motivation of the RESPONSE project was to increase both the safety benefits and the product safety of Driver Assistance Systems, taking into account relevant legal aspects.
According to the RESPONSE definition, advanced driver assistance systems do monitor vehicle surroundings. ADAS can autonomously take over the control of the lateral and / or longitudinal movement of a vehicle under given boundary conditions, as long as the driver does not intervene (i.e. ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control).
These ADAS are characterized by all of the following proprieties: They
- support the driver in his primary driving task;
- provide active support for lateral and / or longitudinal control with or without warnings;
- detect and evaluate the vehicle environment;
- use complex signal processing;
- enable direct interaction between the driver and the system.

Partners of the RESPONSE 3 project as part of the integrated EU project PReVENT within the 6th research Framework Programme were AUDI AG, BMW Group, BOSCH, CRF, Daimler AG, ERTICO, FORD, PSA, TNO, TRL and Volkswagen AG.
The consortium developed and provides the CoP document and the excel-based tool.
ACEA recommends the use of the Code of Practice.
