Andreas Renschler elected president of the ACEA Commercial Vehicle Board for 2008

Brussels, 10/01/2008 - The Commercial Vehicle (CV) Board of Directors of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has elected Andreas Renschler as its new president for 2008. Mr Renschler is member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of the Daimler Trucks Division. At ACEA, he replaces Aad Goudriaan, chairman of DAF, who was CV Board president in 2007.

‘I look forward to leading the dialogue with the EU institutions in the year ahead on behalf of the European truck, van and bus industry’, said Renschler. ‘Rapid globalisation is creating major changes and opportunities for the European commercial vehicle manufacturers. There is a number of important topics that need to be addressed at European level, such as creating open markets and fair conditions for trade and the harmonisation of technical standards. The need to protecting the environment globally stands out among the issues which we will continue to work on with great effort.’

‘We have been able to make significant progress in 2007 with regard to the global harmonisation of pollutant emissions control standards’, added Goudriaan. ‘Our industry has chosen to take an ambitious path, which will once again result in the reduction of NOx and particulate matter from trucks by over 80 and 50%, respectively, making another extensive contribution to improving the environment.’

Mr Renschler has been a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since October 2004 and is responsible for Daimler Trucks. He started his career at Daimler in 1988. Mr Renschler, an economic engineer, held various positions within the group and was previously Executive Vice President of the Mercedes Car Group and Head of the Business Unit smart.

The European commercial vehicles are the safest, cleanest and most fuel-efficient in the world and the European manufacturers are world leaders. In 2005, the EU-25 exported commercial vehicles worth 10.3 billion euro. Annually, 2.5 million trucks, vans and buses are manufactured in the EU, generating revenues of nearly 70 billion euro. ACEA represents the 14 European automobile manufacturers including DAF, Daimler, FIAT (Iveco), MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, Scania, Volkswagen and Volvo (including Renault Trucks). The ACEA CV Board elects a new president every year.
