About the event:
44 young delegates with over 20 nationalities between them travelled from across Europe to participate in workshops and debates on the future of mobility and transport. They met 8 of the 16 major automobile manufacturers’ CEOs as well as various Members of the European Parliament and three EU Commissioners during the ‘Summit’ session on the afternoon of 23 June. In total, over 500 participants took part, among whom a significant number of young employees who have just started a career in the automobile industry, as well as young officials working in the Commission and the European Parliament.
The parallel interactive exhibition remained open until 25 June, attracting further visitors throughout the weekend.

Young delegates from 20 different countries in Europe discussing the future of mobility
“Many decades ago, young entrepreneurs across Europe such as Carl Benz, the Renault brothers or Ferdinand Porsche advanced an invention that gave people not only individual mobility, but the social and economic mobility that comes with it. That’s why it is important today to ask the next generation for their view of the future of mobility and transport and to have them heard by the European policy makers” stated Dieter Zetsche, President of ACEA in his welcome speech for the Summit.

The young delegates, selected by an independent committee following a short competition at http://www.futuremobilitynow.com, compiled a ‘Book of Ideas’ that will be disseminated shortly. The ideas will help broaden and deepen further the debate on- and off-line.
The on-line community at http://www.futuremobilitynow.com, is relatively new, but growing fast. Since April 2011 it has received thousands of visits from 112 countries. More than 200 young adults submitted their thoughts on future mobility and transportation as part of the competition to participate in the exceptional event in Brussels.
“From the entries we received, we saw that the younger generation is focused on greener energies, technological developments, and the growing importance of public transport in future societies. It is intriguing to see how these thoughts have evolved through the exchange and interaction with each other and with the leaders currently facing the challenges of bringing these changes to market” commented Ignacio Salinas from the think tank “Think Young” and member of the selection committee for the competition.
