ACEA at the iMobility Forum

On 28 January, European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) Secretary General Erik Jonnaert presented the industries’ views on the future of automation at the iMobility Forum annual plenary meeting.

The iMobility Forum is an EU initiative to promote research, innovation and deployment of intelligent, safer vehicles and infrastructure that can trace its roots back to 2002. ACEA is a supporter of its objectives and works with the programme to encourage the development and roll out of smart systems, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and automation.

Presenting the automobile industry’s position, Mr Jonnaert said, “The automotive industry strongly believes in the potential of further automation technology to develop vehicles which are safer, cleaner as well as smarter.”

Highlighting the need for greater regulatory clarity, Mr Jonnaert added, "In order to enable these innovations to be further leveraged, several regulatory hurdles will need to be cleared at global, European and national levels. This is particularly the case when it comes to enabling testing on public roads, as well as in clarifying liability concerns. This will require a consistent and more coherent response from the European Commission in implementing its Digital Single Market agenda."
