ESC event

On 1 July, one year after the launch of the ChooseESC! campaign, a conference in the Autoworld in Brussels looked into the results of the campaign and the possibilities to further promote ESC.

Among the speakers were Commissioner Viviane Reding and ACEA Secretary General Ivan Hodac, as well as World Rally Champion 2007 Sébastien Loeb. The participants discussed issues such as the availability of ESC, usage rates, and ESC employment in car fleets.

On the whole day of the Conference, safety and environmental technologies were shown in an exhibition, including ESC and various electronic safety (eSafety) equipments.

ACEA provided an eco-driving simulator that enabled participants to test their driving skills and learn how to make a better use of their car, reduce fuel consumption and consequently emit less CO2. Such an eco-driving training also contributes to safety, as it enhances better traffic anticipation by the driver with earlier deceleration and a less aggressive driving style.

The results of the symposium and more information on ESC are available on the Choose ESC website.

ESC, or electronic stability control, is an active safety measure that helps to prevent accidents in critical situations. ESC seeks to stabilize the vehicle to avoid skidding and can reduce road crashes by more than 20 percent, especially in wet or icy conditions. The European manufacturers, who invented ESC, increasingly equip their vehicles with this safety feature, both standard or as an option.
