Our Future Mobility Now launches competition for students and graduates across Europe

Brussels, 7 May 2012 - Our Future Mobility Now, an initiative from the major automobile manufacturers in Europe, is launching a competition for students and young professionals to win a seat at the project’s high-level Roundtable on October 10 in Brussels with the CEOs of Europe’s largest automobile firms and top EU policy makers.

The Roundtable will discuss ‘Innovation for Europe, Skills for the Future’ and provide a unique opportunity for the leaders of tomorrow to meet, question, and discuss with the leaders of today. Innovation and skills are major issues for society today, especially in light of the challenge for Europe to stay competitive in a global perspective.

Our Future Mobility Now is an initiative of the European automobile manufacturers, organised by ACEA. Reaching out to the mobile generation of the future, the project facilitates dialogue and debate about the major mobility questions of the present and the solutions for transport and mobility in the future. Following last year’s launch event in June in Brussels, the conversation has evolved and grown on-line via regular, expert-led webinars and discussions on Facebook and via Twitter. The main portal is www.futuremobilitynow.com.

“Ask a CEO!” competition

The competition to select Roundtable delegates is called “Ask a CEO!” and opens today at www.futuremobilitynow.com/roundtable-competition. It challenges Europe’s young talent to create a video message with their personal, compelling question to a CEO and to explain what triggered their thoughts or why they believe their question matters.

The top ten of most original or thought-provoking questions will win a place at the table and run for an award for ‘best entry’, voted on by the CEOs and the public. The competition is open until 15 July and entries will be judged by representatives from the youth-driven think tank Think Young, the European movement Confrontations Europe and the automobile industry.

The Roundtable

The delegates’ programme at the 10 October event will feature expert workshops, a quick-fire walk & talk lunch, the plenary and a public debate in the afternoon. A visit and welcome drink will be held at a state-of-the-art car production facility, on the evening before.

Places are also reserved for internationally-minded students or young professionals that are located in or near Brussels. They can enter via a special registration link on the website. The automobile manufacturers will open participation internally as well via their talent pools and graduate programmes. The plenary debate will be open to a wider audience, for which registration opens in the summer, and will be accessible live via the internet.

Background

The roundtable event in October 2012 carries on the success of the Our Future Mobility Now project, which was launched in June 2011 at a large-scale event held in the Brussels Autoworld Museum. It featured the participation of the automobile industry Presidents and CEOs from BMW, DAF, Daimler, GM Europe, Iveco, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Toyota Motor Europe, and Volvo Group. They were joined by senior policy makers, including the then-Prime Minister of Belgium and the European Commissioners Kallas, Tajani and Andor.

Over 350 people participated in the event, many of which young people – including 40 specially selected delegates, also chosen through a Europe-wide competition. Many more visited the special exhibition on ‘Connectivity in Future Mobility”.

Our Future Mobility Now brings together the mobile generation of the future and Europe’s leading vehicle manufacturers to explore how vehicles and transport will evolve and influence the 21st Century. It is organised and run by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
