Brussels, 31 March 2021 – The EU automobile industry is open to higher CO2 reduction targets for cars in 2030, provided that they are directly linked to binding commitments from member states to roll out the required charging points and hydrogen stations. CEOs of Europe’s leading car makers agreed this during a recent Board meeting of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
Brussels, 30 March 2021 – Overall in 2020, 72.9% of all new medium and heavy buses (over 3.5 tonnes) registered in the European Union ran on diesel, down almost 10 percentage points from 2019. At the same time, electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECV) made up 6.1% of total new bus registrations last year, and hybrid buses increased their market share from 5.7% in 2019 to 9.5%. All alternatively-powered vehicles (APV) combined represented more than a third of the total EU bus market in 2020.

Brussels, 19 March 2021 – In 2020, diesel remained the most popular fuel for new light commercial vehicles in the European Union, accounting for 92.4% of the van market. Although the coronavirus pandemic dragged down the overall performance of the EU market, sales of electrically-chargeable and hybrid electric vans increased last year. Electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECV) made up 2.0% of total van sales across the region (up from 1.3% in 2019), while hybrid vans accounted for 0.9% of the EU market in 2020 (compared to 0.3% the year before).
Brussels, 17 March 2021 – In February 2021, new passenger car registrations in the European Union dropped by 19.3%, as COVID containment measures and uncertainty continue to weigh heavily on demand.
Brussels, 12 March 2021 – In 2020, diesel still dominated EU truck registrations in terms of market share (96.5%), while petrol made up only 0.1% of total demand last year. Electrically-chargeable vehicles (ECV) accounted for 0.4% of all new trucks registered across the European Union; all alternatively-powered vehicles (APV) combined held a market share of 3.4% in 2020.
Brussels, 1 March 2021 – A brand new harmonised set of labels for electric vehicles and charging stations will start to be used throughout Europe as of 20 March this year, in line with the requirements of the EU Directive on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (2014/94/EU).
